IPL vs Laser Hair Removal ... We all know the drill.
You shave and head over to the clinic to burn off those pesky hairs which sometimes can even hurt!
The whole process is annoying, takes a long time and the worst part of it? It’s pretty expensive.
What is IPL and Laser Hair Removal?
IPL is what it stands for, Intense Pulsed Light. IPL’s are usually portable and can be carried around anywhere depending on the type of IPL you are using.
For example, if you choose to use the Honey Skin IPL, it is an item that you can carry around, however, some clinics may have more powerful IPL’s that are available that are not as portable.
IPL’s work similarly to that of traditional laser hair removal by emitting light and heat to damage the hair follicle.
By damaging the hair follicle, this will inhibit hair growth. The difference is that IPL’s utilize various different wavelengths in one flash whereas laser hair removal will use one specific wavelength.
These flashes, or “light beams” will be absorbed by the pigment within your skin. When absorbed, it will convert into heat and with sufficient heat, you can damage the hair follicle below. Crazy how scientists can think of these things, right?
The end result of these are the same, you are going to be damaging the hair follicle so that it doesn’t grow back again. You can watch a video for a better explanation below, or continue reading below:
IPL Vs Laser - Which One is Best for You?
That depends on a few factors but if you’re talking about hair removal, then that depends on the amount of hair that you have.
Do you have thick, long, coarse hair? In that case, traditional laser hair removal would work best.
If you have less hair growth, such as around your legs or your arms, then IPL’s may work more beneficially for you.

The truth is that traditional laser hair removal will almost always triumph over IPL’s in the intensity level and the actual hardware, and this is coming from a company that sells IPL’s!
However, you don’t actually need that sort of intensity or hardware for most of your hair removal needs and most of all, you don’t need to fork out that much cash.
